This white paper motivates the use of liquid hydrogen (LH2) as a safe storage option for hydrogen and as a fuel. It introduces the involved technologies for production, storage and transport of LH2. It compares the hazard profiles to compressed gaseous hydrogen and shows why LH2 is the safer option. It explains the economic benefits of storing and transporting LH2 in large scale or over long distance and to use it in weight critical applications like heavy duty transport. Finally, it provides recommendations for policy makers, who intend to raise the potential provided with LH2.
